American Remediation traces a decaying U.S. government film — shot in Arizona, distributed across the Global South, now at the National Archives — through an Indigenous film archive in Oaxaca and back to Arizona in new 16mm, where the landscape it mythologized is now worked by those whose displacement it helped engineer. Ripped, copied, and aged, the image becomes artifact rather than record.

In 1949, President Harry Truman announced four foreign policy goals to counter communism in Europe and the Global South. Alongside the vast transformation of rural territory, the U.S. screened images of development drawn from its own hinterland. Exposed onto 16mm, American landscapes emulsify on American acetate and are projected onto surfaces across the globe, where chemical compounds become alchemical transformations of territory, environment, and nature. Against the pastoral backdrop of a German barn, American Emulsion revisits the images through which U.S. soft power remade the German countryside, processes that continue to shape and destabilize it.

Field Archive: Landscape Architecture in Process presents student work from the Master of Landscape Architecture program as an evolving collective record of inquiry — an archive of the ground defined through site and section, a horizontal register along which shared authorship foregrounds landscape as a field condition shaped by research, collaboration, and material investigation. The landscape is archived through its many objects and mediums of inquiry: the drawings, models, mappings, images, and full-scale studies that apprehend landscape as a bounded form constantly conditioned by boundless ecological, infrastructural, and cultural processes.

In the aftermath of the Mexican-American War, the United States acquired a large tract of land along the Mexican-American border through the Gadsden Purchase of 1854. Flatter and providing a more direct route for the transcontinental railroad, the hinterlands are continuously reconstructed along a continental tracking shot. A vast and ecologically diverse arid landscape is flattened along shifting the planes of fore-, middle-, and background, a picturesque of the American southwest.
